This is exactly what I needed today. I came across your blog from Ariel Amy's post. My "Meeps" have been totally taking over my progression lately. I have gotten frustrated and angry with these insecurities, but I will now try this approach. Hug and love, and embrace the idea of climbing over new walls. Thank you so much. I look forward to going back over your blog, and hopefully you will be writing more. : )

I am in my last year of an undergraduate physics degree and very much appreciate reading your thoughts as a dancer, woman, and a physicist! I've always known I should strive to be the best woman I can be as opposed to being as good as the 85% of the men in all my classes but it wasn't until reading this post that I really realized I wasn't at all doing that. I have, up to now, defined myself solely by how I can be accepted and respected by my fellow male classmates, and it certainly hasn't helped me grow into all I can be in any way. You're words are inspiring and enlightening and I thank you for sharing your thoughts!

Great post - I'm suffering pole paranoia right now after quite a long break from working out. I'm frightened of getting hurt due to losing my strength.

I'm just pushing through the barrier taking small steps to boost my confidence again.

If I were to give my insecurities a persona it would resemble Sweep from The Sooty Show! Another cutie 'beeper' - and I couldn't bare Sweep to be sad!

Great advice ;)

Hi Amanda!
Yes, sometimes it can be difficult to focus on dancing when you're in an "open gym" session. Perhaps you can ask the instructor to have a free dance time in the last 15 minutes, where the students pick a song and everybody dances their heart out. I always love adding that to my "open pole" classes. :)

Major kudos to you for keeping the dance and the pole tricks alive in yourself! xoxo

I CRAVE dancing sexy, sometimes when I'm in class I'm daydream about it. The studio I go to has an "open gym" and I try to go with my knee high socks and only dance sexy. Not very many girls are focused on that aspect of it (well, when I think about it, none of them are, but that's a HUGE reason why I started pole dancing. I got sucked into the tricks and conquering the next one, but I'm in love with the dance part of it. Thank you so much for your beautiful writing :)

Thank you Sanja! It's wonderful to hear of woman who listen to their body and give it exactly what it wants, smooth, sensuous movement! I'm so excited that you were able to create a dance curriculum that can help others feel the same joy as you. Congrats!

I'm so excited that I descovered your blog!!! I've started pole dancing 7 years ago as an S Factor student in Croatia - we have a real S Factor teacher - and I feel every word you are writing deep in my body as total and only trouth. When my teacher decided to change the whole concept and bring in more gimnastic (she started insisting more and more that pole dancing is sport) I left. I just couldn't go there week after week and not feel the thril and excitement and joy that I felt at the begining. But I couldn't stay away from the pole. I danced at home. Alone and with friends. And I started teaching. And seeing in the eyes and faces of my students the same joy, happiness and excitement as I had is the best reword ever.
Thank you!
(I applogize for any mistakes I made, my English became a little rough)
